5 Ways to Promote Your Products and Services

A few weeks ago I mentioned on a YouTube video how people are using Pinterest to market their businesses and services, and I was asked in the comments section if I could make a video to touch on some other ways that you can market your products and services online. All of my blog posts are made into videos as a means of funneling traffic from YouTube to wahwithme’s website so of course I had to write a post, too.

Whether you’re an artist who wants to sell your work or get commissioned gigs, have an e-book or a course for sale, or you’re offering services as a personal assistant, developer, etc. you can use these common ways of marketing to get noticed and make money.

1. Start a Website and 2. Blog

This is one of the most important ways to become established as an online business or freelancer. You can setup a portfolio if you’re offering services that shows your experience, you can write about your industry on a blog to show your expertise in your field. Essentially you’ll funnel traffic through your blog and converting that traffic into customers.

As an example, if you’re a virtual assistant you could write a blog post titled Why A Virtual Assistant Can Save Your Business Money and give examples of why your customer will benefit from your services. Once you paint a picture of why you bring value to to their business, you can lead them to your services page to provide them with your rates or you could have them contact you so you can close the deal via e-mail or phone.

Having your own website establishes your foot print on the Internet. It’ll be a hub that you can funnel potential customers to, and convert them into paying customers. It’s your first step to riches.

3. E-mail Marketing

Let’s say you made your first sale by funneling your customer through your blog. Congratulations! Hip hip hooray! Give yourself a pat on the back.

Now that you have this person who’s handed you their hard earned cash, you want to stay in contact with that person and build on your relationship because they’ve trusted you enough to give your money once and they’re likely to do it again.

The best way to stay in contact with your customer is by converting them into an e-mail subscriber. You’ll see all over the Internet how people stress the importance of growing your mailing list, and it’s true this is a vital part of growing your business.

You can stay in contact with your email list weekly, biweekly, monthly or when ever you have a sale or promotion. The point is you want to have a bridge of contact established to ensure you can keep customers retained and have a future, longterm income from them.

4. Social Media

The trouble is that you don’t own Facebook, Twitter, or Pinterest like you own your website and mailing list, so one day when they decide to change the rules you could have a hundred thousand followers who you can no longer sell to.

What?! No way!

Yes, it’s possible that one day these social media platforms will just go away or tell you, “Hey, sorry, not sorry, you are not allowed to post your products or services here anymore.”

They make the rules! That’s why having your own email list and website is vital in growing your business to its full potential. You own your list and you own your website content. That’s not to say that social media isn’t a great tool because it is. Pinterest, for example drives over 10,000 visitors to my website each month. YouTube drives a big portion of people here too and I also get traffic from search engines. The point is, don’t put all your eggs in one basket because these platforms change.

As an example, Facebook recently changed it’s algorithm and makes it harder for businesses to get organic traffic to their websites, which leads me to the next way to market your business.

5. Advertising your Services

Lots of large corporations and small businesses use advertisements. You’ll see advertisements pretty much anywhere that you are on the Internet. They’re a great way to earn a bit of cash for both parties involved, and they work.

Like the above marketing strategies, you need to know your audience, what they want, what they’re likely to buy, how to talk to them, sell to them, and how to utilize marketing tools to target your ideal customer.

This is just the tip of the iceberg. Ideally you’ll have a website and email marketing client to keep in contact with your customers. If you are using social media it’s a good idea to be on multiple platforms in case one happens to change their rules at of the drop of a dime.
